Take a Train Ride from Seattle!
Whooo-oooo-oooo! CHUG-a-chug-a-CHUG-a-chug-a!!!
Begin your train ride in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. and enjoy SPECTACULAR SCENERY as your Amtrack train (Pictures, Information & Schedule) rolls northbound along Puget Sound's shoreline!
About 12 miles up the line the train stops in the the town of Edmonds. The train continues along the water and, as it approaches Bellingham, Washington, its route runs parallel to the famous Chuckanut Drive, a two-lane road that winds along a steep embankment high above the railroad tracks. At this point, the scenery is so gorgeous it's taking your breath away.
As your train rolls along the shoreline you can see a vast array of wildlife; seals, puffins, ducks, geese and, if it's during the right time of the year, bald eagles! On a recent trip through this area the train passed two bald eagles sitting in a tree next to the tracks. The eagles were "people-watching"!
The train stops in Bellingham's "Old Town" and some folks disembark. They plan to have lunch and spend a few hours browsing around in Old Town's antique stores.
You'd like to see Old Town, too! But, your next stop is Blaine, Washington, on the U.S.A. side of the American/Canadian border. From there, it's on to Vancouver B.C., in Canada!
Just inside Canada, only a couple of miles across the border, the train slows as it passes through the beachfront town of White Rock (named for a huge white boulder on the beach). You are spellbound by White Rock's charm. You see White Rock's beautiful beach and the pier where people can walk way out over the water. And, you can see shops that you'd like to peek into and perhaps stay a while and...Ooooooh, you wish the train would stop in White Rock!
Just as you think you have seen enough, you come to Vancouver BC. From your train window, you get a glimpse of the future, with Vancouver's monorail system crossing the river. The train glides to a stop at Vancouver's station, within walking distance of theatres, restaurants and shops.
